Some of the most important work to improve electric reliability happens underground, and one neighborhood in Pelham is seeing that investment firsthand.

This summer, Liberty is replacing approximately 4,500 feet of underground primary electric cable serving customers in the Blueberry Circle and Falcon Drive neighborhood. The project is part of Liberty's ongoing investment towards strengthening our grid and helping reduce the likelihood of future outages while continuing to deliver safe, dependable service.

Replacing aging infrastructure

Much of the neighborhood's underground electric system was installed decades ago using direct-buried cable, a common construction method at the time. As this type of cable ages, it becomes more susceptible to failures, making proactive replacement an important part of keeping your lights on.

"Liberty continually monitors the performance of our electric system so we can make strategic investments before small issues become bigger ones," said Dylan Truax, Project Manager. "Replacing aging underground cable helps improve reliability for our customers today while strengthening the system for years to come."

Keeping the lights on during construction

A portion of the project was completed in late 2025, with the remaining work now underway and expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Because underground construction is complex, Liberty carefully plans every phase of the project to minimize customer interruptions. Most customers have and will remain in service throughout construction, with any necessary outages scheduled in advance and kept as brief as possible.
