Every time you use your furnace, water heater, or stove, you're relying on a vast network of underground natural gas pipes. While most of this infrastructure is out of sight, it's one of the most important investments Liberty makes to help ensure safe, reliable natural gas service for our customers.
Through our Leak Prone Pipe (LPP) replacement program, Liberty is proactively upgrading sections of our natural gas system with modern materials designed to provide reliable service for decades to come.
Some of the existing gas mains in our system are made of cast iron or bare steel. While these materials served our communities well for many decades, they become more susceptible to corrosion, leaks, and damage from ground movement as they age. Today's plastic pipe is more durable, flexible, and better equipped to withstand the conditions beneath our streets.
By modernizing our system, we're helping improve reliability, reduce the potential for leaks, and strengthen the natural gas network that serves homes and businesses across New Hampshire.
Since launching the Leak Prone Pipe program, Liberty has replaced more than 139 miles of aging gas mains over the past 17 years. These upgrades have not only strengthened the reliability of our system, but also helped reduce methane emissions by minimizing leaks. These projects are investments that benefit customers today and for generations to come.

Modern gas mains require less maintenance, are expected to last for many decades, and help ensure the safe, reliable delivery of natural gas when you need it most.
