Scam Alert: Individuals Posing as Utility Representatives

Londonderry, NH – August 17, 2016 Liberty Utilities was notified of several instances of individuals posing as utility representatives today. The incidents occurred in Salem, Lebanon and Walpole, NH.

“Our customers have been approached in person and on the phone,” said Liberty spokesperson, John Shore, “They are being asked to validate social security numbers, billing and banking information.” According to Shore, the individuals have said another company has purchased Liberty Utilities and they need to verify customer information. Other customers have said the individuals have claimed to be contractors for Liberty Utilities, hired to collect customer information. Liberty is working closely with local law enforcement agencies where the incidents occurred.

“We want to encourage everyone to be suspicious anytime someone calls or visits their home asking for personal information,” said Shore, “All Liberty Utilities personnel have photo ID badges with name and company logo. Ask to see that ID. If you aren’t expecting a visit or call from one of our representatives, don’t let them in or hang up. Call us and we’ll confirm if the representative is legitimate.” Liberty Utilities is also encouraging customers to call their local police.
