Infrastructure Investments - Residential - New Hampshire Electric - Liberty

Our job is keeping your lights on. That’s why we’re continually investing in, strengthening, and modernizing our electric distribution system. These investments help improve reliability, enhance safety, and ensure our grid is prepared to meet your needs, today and tomorrow.

Learn more below about the projects and investments helping us build a stronger, more resilient electric system.

Projects we have completed

Rockingham 115-kV Supply Line

Every time you flip a switch, there's an entire network working behind the scenes to power your day. As the Salem area grows, Liberty has invested in this network by adding a second electricity supply line to serve the Rockingham Substation. This "power behind your power" makes our grid strongerservice more reliable, and provides backup support when demand is high or unexpected outages occur. It also supports future growth in Tuscan Village while keeping neighboring homes and businesses up and running.

Technology & system support investments

Supporting growing communities requires continued investment in the electric system. To serve the expanding Tuscan Village development, we installed new electric circuits and other infrastructure to provide reliable service for new homes, restaurants, stores, and community spaces. These improvements help accommodate future growth while maintaining the reliable electric service you depend on.

Projects underway

Underground Residential Cable Replacement Program

Many neighborhoods throughout our service territory are served by underground direct buried electric cables that have been in service for decades. As these cables age, they become more susceptible to failures that can result in longer outages while crews locate and repair the problem.

We are proactively replacing older underground cables with modern infrastructure designed to improve reliability and, where possible, allow power to be restored more quickly.

Bare Conductor Replacement Program

Keeping the lights on means investing in equipment that can better withstand everyday challenges like trees, wildlife, and severe weather. We continuously replace older overhead wire with modern covered conductor in areas where vegetation and animals like to hang around to our lines. These improvements help reduce outages, strengthen the reliability of the electric grid, and provide more dependable service for the communities we serve.

Covered conductors can make the difference between keeping your lights on, or if an outage does happen, getting your power back on quickly. Liberty continuously tracks and evaluates reliability performance to ensure we're delivering dependable service and to guide investments that further strengthen the electric system.

Substation Modernization

You likely have a “remote control” to open your garage, start your car, or even turn on the lights before you get home. We have one, too, but ours works from our electric control center, allowing us to manage parts of the electric system from miles away. Automated switches, reclosers and other smart grid technology allow us to detect problems, isolate outages so fewer customers are affected, and restore power to many customers more quickly.

Reliable electric service also depends on having the right technology behind the scenes. We’re replacing aging equipment in our substations with modern Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), which provide real-time information to our control center. Together, these technologies give our operators better information about the health of the electric system, helping us identify potential issues, respond more efficiently, operate the system safely, and improve reliability across our service territory.
