Good to know
There are two types of meters, digital and dial. Each type has distinct reading rules. Regardless of meter type, one rule remains the same: To read your meter, please include all the digits you see... even zeros near the left.
Electric Digital Meters
Digital meters are easy to read. Simply read the display and take note of the numbers you see. Here's an example of a digital meter.
This reading would be 02353.
Electric Dial Meters
Dial meters are a bit trickier to read. They turn like clocks, but in opposite directions from each other. Each dial has the digits 0 through 9.
1. Locate the dials on the front of the meter. Meters will have four or five dials
2. Read the dials from RIGHT to LEFT.
a. If the dial pointer is between two numbers, write down the LOWER of the two numbers
b. If the dial pointer appears to be exactly on a number, look back at the dial to the right. If the pointer of that dial has not passed zero,
the reading on the dial to the left, should be the LOWER number.
