Electric Vehicle Overview
As electric vehicles become more popular, many of our customers have questions about vehicle charging, operating costs and billing options. As of July, 2021, we are pleased to announce customers can now charge electric vehicles at home with a more affordable rate.
Time-of-Use rates (TOU) is a rate category where customers pay a different rate based on what time of day they are consuming electricity. Rates will be highest during times of the day when usage is highest (typically when a lot of customers are using energy at the same time) and lowest during the times of the day when very little consumption is going on, such as in the middle of the night. Because most customers will charge their electric vehicles overnight, this rate category will help customers who own electric vehicles save money.

No, your home will remain the same rate that it was prior to requesting service for the rate. Only the separately installed meter will be on the TOU rate.
Yes, you will need a separately metered circuit for charging your electric vehicle. This work can be completed by an electrician. You do not need to have a charging station. A 220/240 volt outlet will work.
A licensed electrician can determine if your current service can handle the added demand of charging an EV. Depending on the charging options for the vehicle you select, an upgrade to your home’s electrical wiring may be required. Upgrades to your home's wiring should be performed by an electrician. If your electrician recommends an upgrade to the utility service to your home, call us at 1-800-375-7413.
Yes, customers can have a third party supplier. However, you won’t receive the TOU rate for your energy service, only the distribution and transmission charges.
Customers who use the TOU rate will have a separate customer charge on their account. This is because the customer will have a cellular meter installed, which will allow us to bill you on the time of use rates.
The TOU rates change seasonally and when there is a rate change. Visit our tariff page for more information.
