We are aware of an outage in Keene affecting 1,000 gas customers. The outage is the result of an equipment problem in our plant. The system is safe and there is no threat to the public. Because of the nature of the issue, restoration of all gas services will likely take multiple days. In order to keep affected customers up to date on where we are with fixing the equipment issue at our plant and restoring service to our customers, we will be posting updates frequently on this page.

Important Safety Information

During this interruption of gas service we want you to be safe. Please keep the following in mind:

  1. Cooking: If you are unable to cook because you have a gas stove, consider using your barbeque grill. Never use the grill indoors and always keep it at least 10 feet away from any buildings or structures. Use only on a level surface and never leave it unattended while in use.
  2. Heating: If you don’t have heat, keep windows closed to aid in keeping your home warm. Only use heating equipment that is approved for indoor use and follow manufacturers instructions. If you are using a fireplace for heat, ensure the flue damper is open and proper airflow exists.
  3. Water Heating: If you need to heat water for washing hands and bathing purposes, please use extreme caution to not overheat the water as it can cause severe burns.
  4. CO and smoke detectors: Use the test button to check that smoke and CO detectors are operating properly

Gas Service Restoration Process

Restoring gas service to a large number of customers is a time consuming process that requires several steps. Each step requires multiple safety checkpoints.

  1. All individual gas meters (over 1000 of them) will need to be shut off
  2. The gas production facility must be brought back to normal operation
  3. Gas will be put back into the distribution system
  4. Each gas meter will be turned on and appliances at the property will be re-lit by a technician.

By this evening, we expect to have service to most of our customers restored. We have 65 service technicians working to turn on individual gas meters and re-lighting appliances. WE NEED ACCESS TO HOMES AND BUSINESSES in order to compete this process. Our number one concern is the safety of our customers and the technicians working on this project. Our service restoration process includes performing multiple safety checks throughout the system.
